A shot. I finally got rid of the treadmill that was sitting there and set

Well, we are house sitting this weekend so I won't be home much to "play"
Next week I'll really try and get a handle on this. Thanks for the input.
Got it working without the mouse (holding down 1 while booting per the
manual) And yes.... I can see were a mouse is MUCH needed! Now I just need a
TV in my "studio" lol
I'll try to get some shot's of my gear and post them soon.

the tape thing on my PC isn't working. swdisk doesn't like it at all and
pops up an error when I try to write a .out file to it. Also, windows wants
to format it and it pops up and error as well. I'll check the win98 box and
see how it runs on that. I just talked with my brother, he has a box with a
TON (like 50) of my floppy's as well as 12 floppy drives. My fingers are
crossed one of those drives will work on one of my PC's (I kinda have a lot
of um. :) ) couple of linux boxes as well. I DO happen to have ( just
found them in my storage) disks that are for the S 550. I'll see if one of
those boot.
How ofter do the drives go out on the sampler? What makes them go out? wear?
broken drive belt? (like on the V50's and SY77's) I can hear the drive
turn, and do it's thing... it just keep giving me "disk load error" after
about 20~30 seconds.

Hey guys ( and gals? ) My name is Robert, I JUST got a used S 550. Course it
only came with 1 disk (utility) I found your site and have downloaded the OS
(tried a few of them) and I just can't seem to get it to load. I keep
getting disk errors. (on the S 550) I've cracked up the box and took the
cover off the floppy drive and cleaned the head with a q-tip dipped in
alcohol and still nothing. I am using a 1.44 drive to make the floppy's.
Running Win XP. I do have a a win 98 box. I also have a S-50 in storage. I
have many old floppy's for the S-50 as well.
I godda say I've always loved Roland. The sounds they make are always nice,
rich and warm. I'm looking forward to getting this sampler back up and
running, but I fear I might need a new floppy drive. :(
I'm going to go ahead and get some new media (ordering online can't find
them locally anymore) and try that.
Any advice is welcome.
