Hi
Nice to see lots of activity here lately, been so quiet for so long.
Note for anybody downloading those old Roland samples from the SGroup
archive;
http://www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup/archive/samples/Roland/
As far as I can remember, there were couple of disks which didn't work. I
have the working ones, but no time to go thru every single one to verify. So
if somebody figures out which are those broken ones, I can sent the correct
images. I actually got the Roland Sound Library L-CD1 disk, years after I
had already downloaded he same stuff from the site.
Most of the Roland sample collection is available at
http://www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup/archive/samples/Roland/
Jim Norman (then at Roland) arranged to send me floppy disks
for me to put online.
If anyone has any other samples they wish to share, I would
be more than happy to put them on the sgroup web site for
all to share.
Cheers!
John

| I've not looked for this in a while, but I thought at one time Roland had an
| FTP web site of their samples available for the public to download that was
| in the SDISK format. Is that still the case or has that changed. If it is
| still available and Roland simply doesn't want to host it, perhaps we could
| find hosting with their permission elsewhere with our list owner?

Hi guys,
Thank you for all the advice and comments. I really appreciated them. I'd never take money away from anybody who has worked hard on creating patches or sample libraries. If you have some s-50 samples you've created and you'd like to sell them to me, that's great! If you guys can point me to how to get s-50 samples that others have made, I'd be happy to pay for them too.
I talked to two different departments at Roland, keyboard, and customer service this morning. Their feeling on these old stock samples is to just go ahead and trade away. They're not making any money off the old technology anymore.

Hi!
I have an S-760 with a bad internal LCD panel (not the backlight, the
LCD itself) - No information displays to the LCD at all.
Can someone tell me the exact series of steps (button presses)
to put the unit back into the mode that allows the use of an external
COMPOSITE monitor?
I'll be doing it blindly, so I'll need something that reads like:
"Press the 'down' button 3 times, then press the 'inc' button ".
I've tried a lot of combinations, to no avail. The problem is that this
menu is NOT shown in ANY of the available documentation, so I'm stuck,
and I can't use my sampler.
If someone could reply to this, I'd be very appreciative. It should only
take 30 seconds or so.
My S-760 has become a glorified paperweight because of this problem. I
REALLY need someone to help out!
Thanks in advance!
What's the law say about trading or copying sounds here in the states? I think it's wrong to pay for the actual sounds, but if you supply the materials so somebody can copy them for you is that wrong? Unless you put advertising on the internet, are the copyright holders going to press charges? I don't want to come across mean, I'm just curious about these questions. Isn't it easier just to throw some sounds on a floppy or 5 and send them through the mail?
I just got an S-760 and it came with a nice sample collection as part of the sale, but it's getting harder and harder to find the soundware for these samplers anymore. Anyone interested in trading sounds? Please email me....
Thanks,
Ken

That's one way. Another way is to write directly to a SCSI drive
(like a Zip), and wrwiting to floppy support is coming.

It could have been; that was a long time ago.

Generally you can, but it's probably best to do one Volume or one
Partition at a time. I'd like to see it do a full disk, no reason why
it can't.

How does translator output roland format? Does it write the ISO image and then you burn it to a CD? What's the latest version of traslator? I tried it once around 2001 or so and found it so buggy as if to be unusable. Can I just stick in an AKAI disk and it will spit out in Roland format? The native translation of AKAI on the roland is very slow and painful. Plus the key velocity maps seem to be all wrong.

Hi Gary thanks for the reply! I went to the electronic city web site and did not see any scsi switches. Any idea what model number I'm looking for and what price I should expect to pay? I also posted links to two switches below. Do you think these will work just as good?
Only one of my S760 has the video upgrade so I don't think a video switch will help me, right?
Thanks again,
Ken
