Thanks for the reply Steve. This list really HAS been quiet....
Just for the record, the 2 MB of RAM lives on the Motherboard. I'd
completely forgotten about that but found it when searching through
the manuals.
It's interesting....there are 4 possible configs:
If you add an 8MB chip into slot A, you'll have 8MB plus the 2MB
onboard = 10MB total.
If you add a 16MB chip into slot A, you'll have 16MB plus the 2MB
onboard = 18MB total.
If you add an 8Mb plus a 16MB, plus the 2 MB built-in = 26Mb total.
For some reason, if you use 2 x 16MB, the built-in 2MB is not used = 32MB
This comes from the Basic Manual.
So, I *DID* expect to see at least 2MB always, but certainly not 1MB,
as this is not really possible. It supports your theory that the
logic is faulty, not the RAM.
Oh damn.....
I think I'm in the market to buy a 2nd hand S760

Hi Colin,
Sorry to hear about your trouble. Id say the logic somewhere on the
motherboard is at fault in order for it to believe there is 2MB of
ram when there isnt. (speaking of your ram removal test)
And yes you can still get replacement ram, but i dont think you need
to in this case. To me, the device should KNOW what ram it has and
doesnt have, and all the screwy memory amounts its been giving you
suggest a problem with its logic. I hope i'm wrong though and
someone with experience has better information.
Still nice to know that the list is alive....dont remember seeing a
post in many months.
Best of luck,
-Steve
