yes, i remember well about that 12-bit optimization. there was a great
debate when the 16-bit samplers came out, particularly in the Hip Hop
community, that the 12-bit stuff was way "meatier" than the 16-bit
stuff. that's why the sp1200 drum machine continued to be so popular,
way past its obsolescence. though i haven't fired it up in years i
can't quite bring myself to lose my s550 - even though Kontakt (the
software sampler i use now) can load my old s550 disks.

least brighter. But I also have lots of samples for the 760 that
sound great so I'd like to be able to load the 760 samples into the
760 and still use the 550. I don't have all that many synth modules
so it would be nice to be able to use both the Roland samplers.

I've got both the Roland S-550 and S-760 samplers and yes, the 760
sounds
much better than the 550 but I have so many samples for the 550 I
always
thought it would be nice to be able to use them both. I wanted to
get a
switcher box so I could switch between the 550 and the 760 with my
CGA
monitor but I never found a switcher box that
would work with the
proprietary Roland cable connection. I figured the easiest thing is
to
find another Roland cable and keep it hooked up to my other sampler
and
then manually connect the cable to the sampler I want to use at that
moment, but I never managed to find another Roland cable.
