My name is Jeff Stevison, I started with a JX-8P then added an S-50. It has issues now that I have not been able to repair. Something to do with internal amp( the volume changes while playing, sometimes to low and most of the time too loud and distorted) I bought a Fantom X. I dont have all of the sounds that I enjoyed with the S50, but have much more options! Roland is still my keyboard of choice! For those who may not know me I'm Jesse Segovia and I play lead guitar and sing in a classic rock band, and I write and record my own stuff in my home studio. I own both a Roland S-760 and S-550. My Main DAW is Cakewalk Sonar. I have one of those Focusrite Saffire audio/MIDI interfaces. To tell you where I am with my Roland samplers, I bought a Yamaha MOXF8 synth a few years ago. It has most of the library of the Motif and it's expandable - you can load samples in the correct format into its internal memory. It sounds very good but I just found out how much I still need my Roland samplers and sample library. The MOXF8 has a Yamaha CP-80 patch that I through was pretty good but last week I was going through some of my Roland sample library sounds. I loaded up one of the CP-70 patches from the Roland Keyboards of the 60's and 70's and wow, there was no comparison. The Roland patch completely blew away the Yamaha keyboard sound. It wasn't even close. If I recorded a song with the Yamaha electric grand sound I would be very disappointed to later on find out how good the Roland sample was. I guess some of us have gone to software samplers but for me, at least for now, I'm sticking with my Roland samplers and I'm very happy to do that.
