I have another question/concern. When the sound files
are extracted
as WAV, most of them will be 30k mono samples. If I wanted to also
burn an audio CD of some of these WAV files, wouldn't they be
converted to 44.1K stereo?

Hi David,
This all depends on your future aims for your sounds. Because the
world is inclined towards software samplers that run as plugins in
hosts like Logic, Cubase etc, you may consider sample rate conversion
(to 44.1K or 48K) of your samples.
I've had success using Logic's Sample Rate conversion for simple one
shot stuff. If you have thousands of samples, you could try an app
that does batch conversion.
In any case, as someone suggested, archive them all anyway in their
original format....
