Hi Rob,
If I recall correctly, you have the S-550.
You should fetch the owner's manual here:

It will explain the whole sampling procedure as well as how to convert S50 disks for use
in the S550.
Much easier and more thorough than a long e-mail here....

Also, seems like it wants to use the mouse. Thought I saw in the manual that
I can switch that off. (looking around right now for a mouse on the web)
So it looks like I'm taking baby steps here. But... hopefully I'll be
walking soon.. then running.
