[sgroup] using PCM CARDs?

Has anyone experimented with using memory cards with a SCSI card reader on the Roland S-series? This is an s760. I have tried it with 2 SCSI card readers with a PCMCIA card to Compact Flash adaptor and 32 m CF card and no luck. :( Sampler cannot format the cards, so they can't be written to. I'm wondering if this is hopeless, or if I should try to get an actual PCMCIA memory card to try, thus eliminating the adaptor/CF card variable.
