Thanks, everybody. I guess I want to find a small, cheap monitor with
RCA and s-video in which allows me to easily switch between the two -
hopefully through a switch on the front of the monitor but a remote
would be OK.
A quick search on ebay shows lots of options, but I don't know if I want
a 42" big screen TV on my keyboard rack. :)

pmfji, I believe the Composite (rca) out on the 760 is
a color out.

I checked and the 550 only has the proprietary Roland connection and a
monochrome RCA out, so I can always try to find a small monitor with
RCA
ins and maybe a cheap RCA switcher - I know these are easy to find and
very cheap.
Is the 760's RCA output mono or color?
As for the 550, I have tons of floppies for the 550 and I know the 760
plays them too, but I want to hang on to both samplers so I can use the
760 for the samples I only have for the 760. The 550 actually doesn't
sound that bad, and some people say 550 samples will sound better on a
550 than on a 760 ('though I can't say I've noticed this myself).

I haven't used a CGA monitor on my system in at least three
years.....
I don't have a S-550.
what I do have is two S-760's, a dvd player and a aurora video card.
they all share the same 13 inch TV using a radio shack s-video
switch
that I bought on ebay for I think $25 a few years
ago.
from memory the CGA switch was expensive etc.....
but having an S-550 may eliminate you from being able to go S-video.
curious to know however,
does the S-550 have a sound that the S-760 doesn't have?
in other words how come you still use both? S-760's are like $175 on
ebay (10% of what I paid for mine, but anyway :-)), how come you
didnt'
replace your S-550?
