No from S550 disk images to ZIP to have all the files
in the same Zip disk
Place a www.chickensys.com/translator/bugreports Bug Report, this is a good time to do it.

I've spent years looking for CD ROM drives that work with the S550.
I was strung along by computer salvage yard guy who swore he had one, but had to find it
again. I kept offering him premium price to spend the time. No dice.
I finally bought early all single speed SCSI drives off of EBAY and checked them out but
very little success.
The problem is people get very little money for them so chuck them out. The one that I
found was from a school in Canada.
Here is what I found:
The Apple 150 is almost impossible to find and I have no experience if even the 300
works. The 150 should work but good luck finding them.
The Sony CDU-6111 definitely works. I found a CDU-6112 that worked. It eventually failed
and I tried to fix it by replacing head but couldn't.
All others that I bought where the numbers were close but were not compatable. Most
sellers don't advertise the model numbers, but you got to look for a Sony single
speed SCSI early model, and, if, an external drive, it would be part of a
"caddy" system.
In the end my S-550 had the hard drive, 4CD's but a broken CDU-6112.
Now I have (3) S-760 and I file convert all the S-550 CD's from a CD I bought off of
EBAY.

I am running HD5-IF 1.03. Are you saying that that OS does NOT work with Zip's? And
are you saying that 1.02 OS 9HD5-IF) DOES work with Zip's? If so I need to check
this. How could I download an .out file (image) of thge 1.02 HD5-IF floppy?

back when i still had my s550 w the HD5-IF i had a roland cd-rom drive, zip drive and a
syquest ez drive all rocking the scsi chain. can't recall which version of the os,
but i assume it was the latest (last).

I tried v1.02 and it worked, so that's a good thing. Pretty weird that a newer OS
broke an old one's functionality. The menus on 1.02 are different than 1.03. But
maybe CD-5 is a different thing that HD5-1F anyway.

New subject: S550 Compatible CD-ROM Drives
For those who are using a SCSI CD-ROM Drive with their S550, what mechanisms are you
using?
I have a bunch of CD-ROM Drives here, and the S550 is certainly more finicky than the S-7x
series. Most of the time I get a Communication Error when doing the SCSI Check and HD
Restart.
