Page 102 of the s330 manual has some info on the AT use.

Thanks Ingo for the reply, much appreciated. And
especially so since you
bring info to the table that's not even in the manual ;-)
I mean, I was wondering if the info could be somewhere in the cryptic manual
(would still have been a task to find it ;-),
but I hadn't even considered the possibility of more recent functionality
added to the OS that's covered by the manual.
(I've also checked the online S-550 manual-pdf, same story, not mentioned)
BTW, main reason I wanted to dust off the old S-330/550 machines are their
multistage envelope generators. While a suited softsynth would most likely
be the most convenient approach,
I was curious how starting from simple waveforms they could realize
a Virtual Analog kind of box with more capable envelope generators than my
other hardware.
But then it's of course desirable that it's easily controlled...
I'll check my controller-capabilities on the sysex-area.
Since it's of course desrable to be able to control more than just
the TVF-cutoff, however useful that already is by means of AT.
Thanks again !
Peter

It may be a silly question, but after toying
around with more recent

knowing how to control that -
coming back to the S-330 & S-550 I can't seem to find how to let them
respond to MIDI-CC.
As it seems they're not really responding to many MIDI-CC numbers but it
all
has to be done by System Exclusive, right ?
Is there for instance no simpler way on these machines to say control
the
VCF(TVF)-cutoff etc in real-time ?
This is soooo long ago...
I seem to remember that on the S-330 filter cutoff can be controlled with
MIDI aftertouch. It isn't mentioned in the manual I have, but the patch
parameter A.T. assign can be set to Cut-off. This option perhaps wasn't
available in older OS versions.
As far as I remember real-time modulating parameters via Sysex was
possible too. Even the sample loop points could be controlled this way.
But it's cumbersome: since the Roland samplers have no edit buffer you
always have to include the parameter adresses of the patch/ tone you're
currently playing. Also, sometimes controlling parameters via Sysex only
has an audible effect when the sampler is in a certain mode (patch edit
or tone edit, I forget).
Thanks for bringing back old memories :-)
Ingo
