Hi everyone,
I really need help on this one.
I tried once before a long time ago, got some suggestions, but couldĀ“t
get it to work.
Today I have used many, many hours to solve this problem, but still no
luck.
I have a S-550 sampler with a monochrome monitor and no mouse. Still
works very well.
I have downloaded various versions of the OS, including the lastest(?)
OS version; CD-5 v 1.02
I have downloaded the DART and SMAC programs, so that I can store and
read disk files on my old Macintosh. It all works quite well, actually.
I can now store and archive lots of floppy disk images. And I can make
new floppies to use on the S-550. Really great.
But; I have some old S-50 disks that I want to read.
I do know that S-550 can read S-50 disks, because in the 1980s I
witnessed this.
There is an utility called S550-S50 conversion, but that one is
designed to convert FROM S-550 to S-50, not the other way round, as I
need it to do.
Now; conversion from S-50 to the bigger S-550 should be easy;
all you need to do is insert the floppy, choose the right menu, and
that should be it.
But no: I have tried to read it in using all the floppy manu options,
and I have also tried the "convertion" menu option under the Utilities
menu.
Each time I get one of two responses:
a. Nothing; the S-550 just drops back to the meny after a second or
two, or most usually;
b. It starts reading the disk, display (correctly) "S-50 version 2",
and answers with "please insert S-550 disk"
I of course try to insert the S-550 system disk, but nothing happens.
I have tried all kinds of tricks to make it read the S-50 disk, but so
far, no luck at all.
I have tried with lower OS versions, and I found a special "utility
disk" that was supposed to do this, and I have downloaded lots and lots
of text files and read about this, and all documentation clearly state
that this should be a piece of cake. However, somehow it does not work!
Could please anyone who know how this works and/or have been able to
convert S-50 floppy disks to S-550 let me know how this is done?
All the best,
Terje Winther
