Take a look at my setup here.
I use an HVR-900 which has both Composite and Svideo capture (as well
as DVB) you can pick one of these up for about $10 at electronic
hardware stores..
It's only $8!

Hi,
I have been using TV cards on laptops/PC's, you can find low cost USB or
PCI cards everywhere, just check that they have an svideo input AND
cable/plug.
This way you don't waste more space than necessary, and can use Alt-Tab to
switch to your sampler (still have to use the other mouse unfortunately).

If the bundled software is a bit of an overkill, you can try this one :

I found it to be just excellent.
