I guess so: each digital out will be stereo, so that's equivalent to
for analog audio outputs. But it seems like a reasonable buy because
I don't know if there are any convenient converters that would do the
simple 2 digital to 4 analog, and if that's what you want and all you
need, why not go for it?

New subject: I just won a Roland DA_400
Yeah, I'm thinking if I get this going I may sell my S-550. Right now I
have both in my 16 channel rack mixer. I'm using the 760's 4 outs and
the first 4 of the 550. I can always load 550 diskettes in the 760 so
after I have all 8 outs for the 760 why keep the 550 around?

The main reason I can think of is that you may want the extra polyphony
that you get from having separate devices. But you should probably take
with a large grain of salt such comments from someone who hasn't even
turned on his S-760 for probably over a year. ;-)

Works fine.
I use 8 outs on my s760.

I've had my S760 + DA400 running on 8 outputs for about 10 years! I
also have an S550 which I don't use all that often. However, I've
become so used to using all 8 outputs of the S760 that I can't
"afford" to bring in extra S550 sounds.
I've also found that if you can cope with the legacy gear lying
around and not working too often, it's not worth getting rid of it.
Invariably you'll need it the week after you sell it! :-)
Even though I mainly use Logic and the EXS24 sampler these days, my
studio is set up for the old Roland gear and I almost always end up
putting in a few of the old favourite sounds.
Just my 2c worth......
