Roland may no longer be offering the sample library for sale, but there
are other soundware manufacturers that do or software that will convert
from other formats, so there are still ample ways of putting those vintage
units to work!
Ebay is also useful for picking up soundware too.

This discussion is kinda funny here on sgroup because the Roland
samples I think we are discussing are all on the sgroup archive already!!!
I think we had this same conversation many years ago, and the result
is they are all online in out very own group!!
Roland samples here:
http://www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup/archive/samples/
Even samples many if us contributed, when we were all young.
The problem is that they are in .out format, so need to be modernized.

If any mac people on here can't read their old Roland disks, I'd be
happy to read in a few for you on my PC..
I can also read ZIP disks, but that's a bit more involved..

Does anyone have a listing of all their samples? Mine's at home - I'll post it to the list as soon as I can.
The original sgroup list had a group archive of their samples - if you read the old archives you'll find lots of discussions about this - but I don't think any of them are available anymore. We should contribute all we legally can to a new group archive.
Does anyone have any server space available to host it?
Jesse

Hello,
I'm quite new to the group, & have an old S550 that came without any
samples ...
as I didn't find a way to sell it, I'd like to use it again where it's
good & strong...
You're welcome to tell me where are these strongs points ...
Is there a possibility to copy the Library (or any interesting sounds)
for my unit ?
Please advise,
Patrice.

Is Mach Five multi-timbral though like s-samplers?
Or do you need to load multiple instances?
My favorite s replacement soft sampler so far is DirectWave.

PS
I just checked and Mach Five only reads S700 series disks - doesn't
mention S550.

My S770 needs a little love, I need to figure out why the MSX mouse I
have won't work and it has been suggested that it could be issues with
the connections INSIDE. So I figure if I am gonna open it up I would
test everything else first and see when other work it might need. I
usually use my SCSI Jaz disk to save and load samples, but floppy can
be convieneient sometimes. I noticed that no matter what I do I can't
get the internal floppy to read or write to a floppy disk. I am
pretty sure I read somewhere that the 770 will read and write to 1.4Mb
disks. Is this true and what type of floppy drive do I need to
replace the one inside the 770? Can I use any drive or is it Roland
Specific?
Thanks
Does anyone know anything about the type of memory chips (SIMM?) that are required for the SP700? Can they be found cheaply anywhere? Can I use something I might find at an electronics/computer warehouse such as Fry's? I have 16MB installed and from the manual it looks like I need two 8MB SIMMs to brinG it up to the max of 32MB.
